Fabricated Garden of Eden Set
Project: Passengers, Sony Pictures
Materials:
Fabricated Pin Oak Tree, Plant Pods & Garden
Behind the Scenes:
Filmed in Atlanta in 2015, Passengers presented one of our most ambitious challenges: creating a lush “Garden of Eden” aboard a futuristic spaceship. Cinema Greens designed and built key fabrications including a hand-built Pin Oak tree, intricate plant pods, and the expansive garden that closes the film.
The Pin Oak was crafted to look natural yet believable on a fabricated deck, later reappearing as a fully grown 90-year-old oak. For the pods, our shop washed and set ligustrum roots into glass capsules, embedding them in inert gel with artificial foliage to mimic preserved genetic stock.
The Garden of Eden set required over 200 tons of plaster sand, 4,000 square feet of artificial turf, a pond with pea gravel, and layered live and artificial plantings to create a rich, cinematic environment.
